Karin Keller-Sutter

Karin Keller-Sutter, born 1963, began her political career in 1992 as a local councillor for the FDP in Wil (SG). She was elected to the cantonal parliament in 1996 and to the cantonal government of St. Gallen in 2000. Karin Keller-Sutter became a member of the Council of States in 2011. She presided over the small chamber in 2017/2018. During this time, Karin Keller-Sutter was also active on various boards of directors and foundation boards, including the Board of Directors of the Bâloise insurance group.
The United Federal Assembly elected Karin Keller-Sutter to the Federal Council on 5 December 2018. From 2019 to the end of 2022, she headed the Federal Department of Justice and Police (EJPD). She has been Head of the Federal Department of Finance (EFD) since January 2023, Vice President of the Federal Council in 2024 and President of the Swiss Confederation in 2025.
