Hannes Schmid

Hannes Schmid is an artist and philanthropist from Switzerland. He gained worldwide fame as a photographer with his staging of the iconic Marlboro Cowboy for Philip Morris and his portraits of rock stars such as Queen, AC/DC, Status Quo and ABBA, with whom he toured the world for several years.
Since 2012, he has been involved with the NPO Smiling Gecko, which he founded in Cambodia - one of the poorest countries in South East Asia. In 2018, he received the “Lifetime Award“ at the Swiss Prix Courage and an honorary doctorate from the University of Zurich for his tireless commitment on the ground.
